It's the Happy New Year Health Challenge- New and Improved in just 3 months!

Here's how it works:

Each day you can earn up to 4 points for healthy choices:

Healthy Food: 1 point if you don't eat any junk food or treats. There is room for interpretation on what constitutes "junk food", so you need to decide and write down what you will or will not eat. Obviously, it would include candy, cake, and cookies, etc., but you can decide whether it would mean no white flour, no fried food, etc. Again, it doesn't mean that you will never have an unhealthy food, it just means that you don't earn your point that day. If you eat more than a palm-sized serving over the day, then not only do you forfeit your point for that day, but you have to take another point off.

Enough Sleep: 1 point if you get at least 61/2 hours of sleep a night.

Exercise: 1 point for your choice of vigorous exercise for at least 35 minutes--walking fast is OK (Sundays are excluded for exercise goal--instead give yourself a point this day for sending me your weekly points before Monday at 8AM EST).

Personal Goal: 1 point for working towards the goal of your choice. Goals are always more successful when you have to report to someone; however, you don't need to tell me what your goal is, but before we begin, you need to write it down so it is clear in your own head what needs to happen for you to earn that point that day. If you want to share it with a friend, that would be great.

It is an honor system! If you eat the treat, then enjoy it and do better tomorrow, or if you skip a day of exercise, don't give up, just don't give yourself points for that day.


The Prizes:

First Prize: $The money will depend on how many people sign up. I will let you know when I hear from everybody.

Second Prize: $Also will depend on how many people sign up.

Third Prize: $Ditto

In the event of a two-way tie, the first and second prize money would be divided between the two winners. In the event of a three-way or more tie, all the above prize money would be divided by those who are tied.


How to Get Started:

The 12 Weeks start Monday, January 18th and end Monday, April 12th. Write out your healthy food guidelines and your personal goal outline. On January 18th, start keeping track of points if you intend on joining. I will let you know how much each of us will put into the prize pot. Right now I am thinking about $5, but if we don't have a lot of people join, I will up it to $10, so send this off to any friends you think might be interested. I will need to have a list of all those who want to participate by January 15th. I will let you know by the 18th what the fee will be and what the prize money amount will be. I will need your money by February 1st. (No refunds after Febraury 8th.) Each Monday before 8 AM you need to send me the total points you earned that week (28 points possible for the week). I will keep a running tally going on the side. Hopefully this will be a lot of fun. I might even start a blog so we can follow our progress. Let me know if you are interested.
